2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTAm unveiled

Alfa Romeo is now 110 years only and the marque automaker has a great way to celebrate. We now have the debut of the 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and Giulia GTAm, decades after the Giulia Sprint GTA was introduced to the masses.

The debut of these two iconic cars have taken place online, post the Geneva Motor Show was pulled off due to coronavirus outbreak. The automaker has also mentioned that with this new GTA, the icon comes back to life. It is built with the roots of uniqueness, elegance, and sportiness.

The moniker ‘GTA’ stands for ‘Gran Turismo Alleggerita’, which means ‘lighted grand tourer’. On the other hand, the addition of ‘m’ means ‘modificata’. These two models bring about a host of updates on the performance aspect, much based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio. The power upgrade on both the cars is the same and so are the aerodynamic enhancements.

The two cars are very lightweight, thanks to the use of carbon fibre in abundance. For the GTA model, Alfa Romeo has used carbon fibre trims on the front wheel arches and rear wheel flares, front bumper and bonnet, carbon monocoque seats. On the other hand, GTAm gets the same updates, plus polycarbonate on the window frames and several aluminium trims in place of steel. Moreover, it also removes the rear seats This helps it to shed off around 100 kilograms weight.

Both cars are inspired by Sauber F1 aerodynamics. This upgrade includes side skirts, active front splitter, and a rear diffuser. The GTAm gets a big front splitter and carbon-fibre wing at the rear.

Mechanically, the two cars get their power from a 2.9-litre, V6, bi-turbo engine from the Giulia Q. However, the engine has been enhanced to produce 547 PS of power, which is more than the standard. Though the torque figure hasn’t been revealed yet, we can expect it to be more than the standard 600 Nm.

The 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTAm will be limited to 500 units globally, and we still know how the allocation would be split. In fact, we are still unsure whether the automaker will make it available in Australia or not.
