2020 Mazda2 is here, carries a premium of up to $5,400

The refreshed 2020 Mazda2 made its way out in its homeland, that is, Japan in July 2019, earlier this year. Following the Japanese launch of the 2020 Mazda2, the updated hatch and sedan models of the much popular car in Mazda's lineup were slated to arrive here in Australia in the first quarter of 2020. And, with the new year just around the corner, the Japanese automaker has revealed the pricing for the revisited hatchback and sedan models of the 2020 Mazda2.

2020 Mazda2 Hatch front

Unlike before, the 2020 Mazda2 range now comprises just seven models instead of the previous fourteen. Also, the price is significantly changed as the 2020 Mazda2 is now more expensive by up to $5,420 than the previous model. The new price tags for the Mazda2 hatchback lineup range from $20,990 to $25,990, that too, without on-road costs. Moreover, the new Mazda2 sedan range now carries a price of $20,990 and tops out at $25,990 plus on-road costs.

2020 Mazda2 Hatch Cabin

While the engine is still the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol-fed mill, it now produces 111 hp of maximum power and 139 Nm of peak torque instead of 107 hp and 144 Nm. A big mechanical change comes in the form of the manual transmission now being available only with the base model of the Mazda2 hatch and sedan. Much trendy and sought after Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity is standard across the lineup as a part of the updated MZD Connect infotainment system.

2020 Mazda2 Hatch Side

On the outside, the 2020 Mazda2 carries a revamped front fascia, attractive bumper treatments, styling cues from the bigger Mazda 6 and CX-5 siblings. Besides that, the adaptive LED headlights and a new LED daytime running light signature further enhance the Japanese car's appearance. Having a look at the specs sheet, the 2020 Mazda2 also gets some high-end safety features like a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, low-speed city autonomous emergency braking system, rear cross-traffic alert, and many others.

2020 Mazda2 Infotainment

"The 2020 update to Mazda2 adds some premium safety technology never-before-seen in vehicles at this price point in Australia", said Mazda’s director of marketing, Alastair Doak. Anyway, the 2020 Mazda2 hatchback and sedan models with their pricing are as follows:

  • 2020 Mazda2 hatch Pure manual – $20,990
  • 2020 Mazda2 hatch Pure auto – $22,990
  • 2020 Mazda2 hatch Evolve auto – $24,490
  • 2020 Mazda2 hatch GT auto – $25,990
  • 2020 Mazda2 sedan Pure manual – $20,990
  • 2020 Mazda2 sedan Pure auto – $22,990
  • 2020 Mazda2 sedan GT auto – $25,990

2020 Mazda2 hatchbacks and sedans will be arriving at the Australian dealerships soon, however, there are still ample out-going models that remain to be sold. So, why not bargain a little and get a discount on a runout model? Or would you like to get your hands on the updated 2020 model only?
