Skoda Kamiq’s production kicks off, to launch by Q1 of 2020

Skoda has informed that the production of its all-new Kamiq has started in the brand’s main factory situated in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. It will be introduced in the Australian market next year. The car will also arrive in the European markets in the coming months and will be the third coaster in Skoda’s global SUV family, with the other two- Karoq and Kodiaq crossovers.
As from the company's words, the production rate of the SUV will be 400 units a day. Apart from the all-new Skoda Kamiq, Karoq, Fabia, Scala, and Octavia are also assembled at the same plant. The manufacturer has invested around €100 million which is equivalent to $160.59m to modify its crossover production line.
Skoda board member for production and logistics, Mr. Michael Oeljeklaus said, “Over the past few months, we have made all of the provisions in production and logistics to successfully launch the Kamiq in the city SUV segment.” He also added, “We are convinced that – in typical Skoda style – the Kamiq too will impress our customers with its excellent quality and many practical features.”
Post revelation in the Australian market next year, the all-new Kamiq will hit the shores in late Q1 in 2020. It will arrive after the launch of Scala hatchback and the Volkswagen T-Roc.
It has the potential to give a tough competition in the small SUV segment, which is increasing day by day. The segment is the fourth highest-volume vehicle class, placed behind the Medium SUVs, 4x4 Utes, and Small Cars. It is now holding around 13 percent of local sales. After the launch, the car will go up against the likes of top-selling Mitsubishi ASX, Honda HR-V, Nissan Qashqai and Mazda CX-3.
