2020 Nissan Patrol - All you need to know

Nissan Patrol has been a stylish SUV with premium styling and powerful performance, ever since its introduction in the global market. The Australian market has been welcoming the offering by the automaker since its launch in 2013. The latest offering from the Japanese sports utility vehicle manufacturer is the facelifted 2019 Nissan Patrol which also happens to be easily distinguished.

Nissan offers two trims for the Patrol, namely Ti and Ti-L. For safety, there is an increased suite of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Intelligent Mobility features are added. However, this SUV faces competition with offerings of other automakers as the Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Land Cruiser.

Exterior

In its updated offering, Nissan Patrol comes with a unique sporty front end design which builds a strong aerodynamic USP around the car. Patrol showcases a premium look with its front bumper and grille. The vehicle sports LED lamps in the front and rear, along with the bumper.  The front and rear lamps are significantly improved with the presence of 52 LEDs in the front and a total of 44 LEDs in the rear along with the LED fog lamps for an enhanced night vision to the driver. The rear of the Patrol carries boomerang-shaped LED taillights and a larger chrome nameplate.

Inside, Nissan Patrol specs sheet features an 8-inch colour touch screen display and an around-view 360-degree parking camera that acts as a rear-view mirror. The entry inside the car can be managed by an intelligent key with remote keyless entry. Moreover, this stylish SUV features a push-button start and sat nav with 3D mapping features. Infotainment inside the car is managed by Bose’s thirteen speakers to upgrade the listening experience.

The automaker offers the car in a total of six colour options, namely Brilliant Silver, Black Obsidian, Galaxy Gold Gun and two new colour offerings, Metallic Hermosa Blue and Moonstone White.

Engine specifications

Both the trims of the facelifted Patrol variant are powered by a carryover 5.6-litre petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 405 hp and peak torque of up to 560 Nm. The V8 engine comes mated with a seven-speed automatic transmission and the car features an all-wheel-drive format.

However, the car tends to fail while off-roading, when compared with Patrol it comes with better ground clearance and handling. The base-grade Active variant of the Santa Fe starts at $43,000 for the petrol and $46,000 for the diesel. 

Toyota Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol

Price-wise, Nissan’s $75,900 flagship SUV grabs win against its $1,08,000 Toyota rival. Moreover, performance-wise, Patrol carries a 5.6-litre V8 engine capable of 405 hp and 560 Nm of torque, which is 168 hp more and 55 Nm less than the maximum output of the Land Cruiser's 4.5-litre turbo diesel V8.

Safety features

The safety features of the car include a plethora of technologies that will ensure the driver with driving safety and comfort. Both the variants are offered with technologies like Intelligent Cruise Control, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, and Intelligent Lane Intervention. Moreover, the Intelligent Blind Spot Warning Smart technology system detects vehicles in the blind spot and alerts the driver via an audible alarm.

Nissan Patrol’s USP is its smartly designed cabin and customers are attracted to the appeal of its aerodynamic style and shaping. If this alone does not impress you, Nissan has very carefully segregated the facelifted Patrol lineup with a revised front grille, fresh 18-inch wheels, LED head- and tail-lights, and tweaked bonnet and fender panels. Although the price of the car is a bit higher now, this very capable everyday SUV ensures a smooth and safe ride across different terrains. Patrol resembles a style statement to the modern consumers and tends to deliver enhanced and raw performance, making this car a chart-topper in its segment.
