GM teases its first electric pickup truck, to go on sale in 2021

Currently, the plant is in charge of producing the Cadillac CT6 and Chevrolet Impala sedans. The investment by the company intends towards converting the factory into GM's first factory to be 100 percent dedicated to EV production.

GM teased about their upcoming truck via a simple silhouette outline which does not tell us any details on the vehicle apart from its outline styling. The shape resembles the aerodynamical styling of the modern-day pickup trucks.

Previously, GM revealed its plans to build an electric pickup during a month-long strike in September and October as part of its negotiations with the Union of Auto Workers. However, the date was mentioned recently while GM CEO Mary Barra said that the company's first electric pickup truck would "go on sale" in "the fall of 2021."

In the very recent context of their offering, the CEO commented, "General Motors understands truck buyers and... people who are new coming into the truck market that view it as a lifestyle vehicle," she also added. "It will be a very capable truck, I'm pretty excited about it."

For its near plans, the automaker aims to launch 20 electric vehicles globally by the end of 2023. Additionally, GM is also working under a partnership with construction company Bechtel to build electric vehicle charging stations across the United States.

Lastly, GM tends to make a place in the electric vehicles (EV) market via its offering. The pickup truck by GM would be facing healthy rivalry from Rivian's R1T electric pickup, slated to arrive in 2020, and Tesla's electric truck planned to introduce in 2021.
