Toyota Australia aimed to bring EVs from 2025

Nowadays, almost all the car-manufacturers are planning to come up with an electric vehicle or have plans to upgrade their existing ones to mark their presence felt in world-wide EV popularity.
In the same run, Australia's top-selling brand Toyota has set its long-term targets. The firm is currently focussing on the reduction of CO2 emissions by popularising economical hybrid versions of their few models namely Corolla, Camry, and RAV4.
During a recent interview, Sean Hanley, vice-president of sales and marketing of the firm said, “We've never ruled out bringing electric vehicles... to Australia, it’s just a matter of timing, and of course also a matter of having the right infrastructure in place to support it as well.”
He confirmed the firm’s plan to sell BEVs (battery-electric vehicles) as early as 2025 because currently, they seem expensive for the customers and also the quantity of charging stations is not sufficient to handle the public demand. To check these issues, the firm is focused on procuring more durable batteries, installing more charge points, and lowering prices.
He further added, “Hybrid is immediately suitable to reduce our CO2 footprint, it provides outstanding fuel economy, performs well, but above all it's affordable, and I think that's what we’ve got to take into account — electrification at its current maturity is quite expensive.”
Upon asking about the arrival in Australia, he stated that ultimately electric vehicles will come to the country and Toyota will certainly be part of bringing electric vehicles in the future also. He did not mention a particular date but quoted the time between 2025 and 2030.
If we see the firm’s long term sales projections, it targeted over half of the global sales for electrified vehicles by 2025 which is 5 years ahead of previous plans. The sales numbers are set as 4.5 million hybrid and plug-in hybrid units and 1 million all-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell units in 2025.
