The Subaru Foster is a popular SUV in Australia and has been in the market for nearly two decades now. The company recently revamped it for 2019. The new Foster is larger, has more room, is more robust, comes with better safety features, and is equipped with enhanced driver assistance. An all 2.5-litre petrol line-up has replaced the previous 2.0-litre petrol engine, the 2.0-litre turbo diesel, and 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. The new model is taller and poses bigger tail-lights. The interiors are nothing fancy, and the dashboard features, like the vertical vents on either side of the multimedia, are very similar to the ones seen on the Impreza and the XV . There's a 6.3-inch multifunction display (MFD) on top of the dash for monitoring vehicle functions, which is joined by a third screen in the instrument panel. The lower trims come fitted with a 6.3 multifunction display, but an 8.0-inches screen features on higher versions. The top three models are also equipped with the new Driver Focus driver-monitoring system which detects drowsiness, and even recognises the driver's face to adjust to their preferences. The 2019 Subaru Foster starts retailing at $28,310 and goes up to $33,660.

Subaru has been known for making cars that are rugged, a bit more adventurous and good family cars that last for a while. A vehicle like CX-5 really dominate in Australia and Forster is looking to come in and disrupt the party. The turbo diesel and petrol engines have been eliminated. There are four trim levels on offer, 2.5i, 2.5i-L, 2.5i Premium, and 2.5i-S.
The looks are certainly changed and the rear end won’t be everybody’s taste. It features heated and power folding rearview mirrors. Further enhancing the look, it gets a rear spoiler and roof rails. It comes with 17 inches alloy wheels in the base trims and 18 inches in the higher trim. LED units include headlamps, tail lights and fog lights. The headlights are dusk sensing, self-leveling and steering responsive.
Everyone will be able to agree on the fact that the cabin of the new Forester is a good step forward from the vehicle replaced. However, there are some touches that are unique to the Forester but the look is very much Subarus. You get a big eight inches touch screen on the higher end models. If you go lower, it features a 6.5 inches touch screen. The infotainment system is pretty easy to use. It features navigations, radio, Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple Carplay. Forester also flaunts a further digital screen up top, which gives you more information on fuel consumption, safety etc. Another colour screen is present behind the steering wheel. Overall, it feels a lot techy and there is a lot of tech going on on the steering wheel. It's an easy car to live with and operate as it gets big dials and buttons. The material quality is a bit of a mixed bag as the leather steering wheel does not feel creamy. While you do get soft-touch surfaces on the dashboard, there is a bit of hard plastic used in the doors. No complaints about the seats, they are pretty much supportive and comfortable. The rear passengers will enjoy plenty of headroom and legroom. Along with the big cabin space, this car also flaunts a decent boot.
Under the bonnet, there is only one option now. It is 2.5L naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, which makes max power of 182 hp and peak torque of 239 Nm. This car lacks the low-end punch and wants to be given the beans. It is capable of doing a 0-100 sprint in 9.1 seconds. The suspension on every model is soft and tuned towards comfort. It is capable of absorbing almost all the bumps in the road.
Subaru has fused innovative safety features into the Forester. Unique face recognition observes the driver’s attention. Reverse automatic braking detects the objects that are not evident to you and saves you from collisions. Auto vehicle hold prevents you from losing the grip on an uphill climb. Overall this car is very safe, as it even gets 5-star ANCAP rating.
