Suzuki Vitara is a subcompact SUV, aimed for city use but still boasts off-road abilities. Apparently, having increased ground clearance immediately qualifies the car as an off-roader. The 2019 facelift introduced some new features for the model as compared to the previous model. However, most of the upgrades are related to interior tech and safety.
The interior is not among the most modern but it is very practical and easy to use. The buttons on the steering wheel are comfortably spaced apart and it is very practical. The instrument cluster is really clear and easy to read. The small display in the facelift version is a 4.2-inch colour LCD. You also get a seven inches infotainment screen with navigation, mirror link, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Though the interface is not pretty, it is quick and responsive. Storage is satisfactory with all the door pockets, glove box, and cup holders.
On the outside, the Vitara is still pretty much the same. It is modern with angular features, which gives it a bit of toughness and is reminiscent of previous Vitaras. The bumper is slightly elevated in the middle now. This is not just for the looks but it is also a practical feature. It actually makes room for the millimeter wave radar which adds to the safety features. Other than that, this car has more pronounced wheel arches especially so in the back, which hugs the 17 inches polished alloy wheels. The turbo trim schleps a two-tone colour outfit. It also comes with automatic LED headlights while the old grip adds to the wonderful panoramic sun-roof.
There are two engine options. The first one is the well-proven but slightly outdated 1.6L VVT that puts out 115 hp of power and 156 Nm of torque. Another one is the latest turbocharged 1.4L booster jet that churns out 138 hp of power and 220 Nm of torque, the latter comes as early as 1500 rpm. The power is transmitted to the wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Talking about the performance, the turbo lag is minimal and the gearbox keeps you in comfortable revs all the time. The suspension is likewise great and even though it is elevated, body roll is still minimal. Some cars can really feel soulless to drive but the Vitara definitely has personality, steering confidence and comfort. Â
The facelift has added some safety features to catch up to some of the competition. You get automatic lamps and wipers, keyless start, adaptive cruise control with speed limiter and more. Vitara comes with an anti-lock braking system that prevents the rear wheel from locking down on harsh braking conditions. You also get electronic stability control that will protect you from rollovers and keep you planted every time on the road. Other safety features include blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, high-beam assist, hill hold control, hill descent control, brake assist, front and rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera.
If you get fascinated at cool and refreshing cars then you simply cannot give this a miss. This car won my heart when I found it in an automobile fair on last fall. I was just hanging out there with a friend of mine to kill some time after work. Then only I got to check few cars out there.
I was in search of a SUV with a punchy and reliable engine. My friend suggested me to take a test ride of Suzuki Vitara. I was very impressed with the performance and decided to purchase. I am very satisfied with my purchase. The turbocharged engine is very robust and refined at the same time. There is plenty of space
